Fix a slow website: what actually helps
A slow site loses guests before they see the menu. On Vietnam mobile networks a homepage that takes more than a few seconds often never converts. Fixes are usually cheaper than a full rebuild — if you change the right things.
Typical causes we see
| Cause | What guests feel |
|---|---|
| Huge hero images or autoplay video | Blank screen, then a jump |
| Too many scripts (chat widgets, trackers) | Buttons freeze on cheap Android |
| Server or CDN far from Asia | Long wait before first byte |
| Blocking on every click (cart, checkout) | “Nothing happens” after tap |
| In-app browsers (TikTok, Zalo, Facebook) | Broken layout or 404 if misconfigured |
What we fix first
- Measure real load on a phone, not only on a Mac Wi‑Fi.
- Compress and lazy-load images; drop video until after first paint.
- Cut unused scripts; keep payment and order paths light.
- Make sure checkout never hangs waiting for CRM or ads.
- Handle weak in-app browsers so ad traffic still reaches the real storefront.
Cost and timeline
Focused speed and checkout repairs often start from about $50 and finish in 1–3 days. If the site is beyond repair (old page builder, no source), a clean rebuild from about $300 in 1–2 weeks can be cheaper than endless patches.
We fixed this class of problems on our own shop RuGoods (image weight, checkout blocking, in-app browser escape) — the same checklist applies to hotels, cafés and clinics.
